How do I change my registered agent?
You file your state’s statement of change naming the new agent. 35 states charge between $5 and $49, 10 charge nothing, and the highest is $100. Our pick for the new agent is Mainstay Filing: $149 a year, the same at renewal.
The change in four steps
- Choose the new agent and get their yes. The new agent needs a street address in the state and must agree to serve; some forms carry the agent’s signature.
- Find your state’s form. Each state has its own statement of change; the table below names it and the state page links to it.
- File it with the state and pay the fee. Fees run from nothing to $100; 10 states charge none.
- End the old service on your terms. Check the old provider’s renewal date and cancellation wording before the state accepts the change, so you do not pay for both.
Mainstay Filing
$149 a year, same at renewal
- A registered agent alone, for a company that is already formed, is $149 a year. That plan does not include the annual report
- Service of process is scanned and uploaded the same business day at no fee
- The first three government mailings a year are scanned free; after that a per-piece fee applies
Mainstay Filing pricing, FAQ and services pages, read October 25, 2026. The registered agent address is not a business mailing address and cannot stand in for one, for example for bank verification.
